Overview

TechRiseUps ("we", "us", "our") is an independent technology-media publication. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it. By using techriseups.com you agree to the practices described here. We collect the minimum data needed to run the site and never sell your personal information.

Information we collect

We collect: (1) information you give us directly — your email address when you subscribe to the newsletter, the name, email and message you send through the contact form, and any comments you post; (2) account information if you create an account, such as your name, email and a hashed password; and (3) technical and usage data collected automatically, such as your IP address, browser type, device, pages viewed and referring URLs, gathered through analytics. We do not ask for, and request you do not send us, sensitive personal data.

How we use your information

We use your information to operate and secure the site, to send the newsletter you explicitly subscribed to, to respond to your enquiries, to display and moderate comments, to understand which content is useful so we can improve our editorial work, and to comply with our legal obligations. We do not use automated decision-making that produces legal effects about you.

Legal bases (GDPR/UK GDPR)

Where the EU/UK GDPR applies, we rely on: your consent (newsletter sign-up, non-essential cookies); the performance of a contract (operating your account); and our legitimate interests (site security, measuring and improving our content, and preventing abuse). You can withdraw consent at any time.

Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of essential cookies (for example, to keep an administrator signed in and to remember your light/dark theme) and Google Analytics 4 to measure aggregate, pseudonymous traffic. Analytics helps us see which articles are read without identifying you personally. See our Cookie Policy for the full list and how to control them.

Who we share data with

We never sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers ("processors") that make the site work, under contracts that limit their use of it: our database and storage host (Supabase), our application host (WaseerHost), Google Analytics for traffic measurement, and our email/SMTP provider for newsletters and contact replies. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

Data retention

We keep newsletter subscriptions until you unsubscribe, account data for as long as your account is open, contact messages for up to 24 months, and aggregate analytics for up to 26 months. When data is no longer needed we delete or anonymise it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, to object to processing, and to unsubscribe at any time (every email has a one-click unsubscribe). To exercise any right, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission is 100% secure, but we work continuously to safeguard your information.

International transfers & children

Our providers may process data in regions outside your own; where required we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses. TechRiseUps is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
